Your research of Sullivan County families and history is important to all of us. We're glad to help when we can, and although we do no not have the time or staff to conduct professional research, there are various ways you can find out more about your ancestors. Upon request, we will also be happy to provide you with a list of professional researchers.
SCHGS Journal - Our journal can help you with your genealogical research in two ways. It will (1) provide you with a power-packed semiannual publication of history and genealogy about the region; and (2) allow you to place queries, free of charge, in the SCHGS Journal. Your queries will be read by thousands of people in time to come, and you may be surprised at folks who may contact you about the query you placed, sometimes even years later! See the column at right for more information about how you can receive the SCGS Journal.
Sullivan County Archives - The Sullivan County Archives was created in May 2004. Currently, SCHGS volunteers and others are avidly working to preserve Sullivan's oldest records and to make them available for public viewing. Additionally, the Archives has a library and digital archives collection that is rapidly growing. The Sullivan County Historical and Genealogical Society supports the Sullivan County Archives, and many of our SCGS members are volunteering to help with the preservation efforts of the archives. Join us in volunteering at the Archives... You might be surprised at what you find on your ancestors!
East Tennessee & Southwest Virginia Digital Archives - Spanning back to the beginning of the Hunt Genealogy Library, this collection contains more than 50,000 digital photographs dating back to the middle 1700s to present-day. How can this date back so far? The collection includes scanned images of many items that date back to the 1700s, and these include documents, Bible records, and more. Photographs of people span circa 1845 to present-day, and most are pre-1930. The digital images cover Sullivan County as well as various counties in East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.
Sullivan County books - We are fortunate that several books and and publications are available on Sullivan County history and genealogy. Click the link to see a list of available publications.
