Calendar of Events
The Sullivan County Historical and Genealogical Society holds its regularly scheduled meetings at 7 p.m. on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Meetings are held at the Sullivan County Courthouse, 2nd Floor Commission Room, in historic downtown Blountville. In the event that a meeting will be held at another location, such as our Summer picnic and our annual Christmas celebration, the places will be posted here. We warmly welcome you to our upcoming events.

King College Beginnings
Dr. William Wade
Dr. William Wade, former professor at King College, will be telling members of the Sullivan County Historical and Genealogical Society about the roots and beginnings of King College. After his early schooling in Memphis, he then attended Rhodes College (now Southwestern College), in Memphis, and then attended and obtained his MA and PhD degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Coming to King College in 1952, he taught every history and political science course which the college ever offered, until his retirement in 1998. He also served two terms as dean from 1962 to 1975, and again in the late 1990's.
Having noticed that King College had no archives, Dr. Wade worked to get one started, with the help and gifts of many friends of King. There is now a good collection of materials related to the history of the school. Dr. Wade and his wife Margaret have three children and five grandchildren, all living in the Tri-Cities area.
This March meeting of the Sullivan County Historical and Genealogical Society will be Thursday March 17, at 7 PM, in the County Commisioners Room on the second floor of the Courthouse. There will be time for questions to be answered by Dr.Wade following his presentation. The meeting is open to all who desire to attend, at no charge.
